IRVINE, Calif. 7/06 -- With an innovative Slide ‘N’ Grip reel seat so anglers can affix their reel on the rear grip to their own personal preference, Shimano continues its emphasis on fishing rods with the introduction of the Tiralejo surf rods. The series includes five casting rods from 8- to 12-feet in length, and 13 spinning rods in 7-foot-6-inch to 12-foot lengths - plus a system of counter balance weights is offered separately to properly balance out the rods no matter where the reel is attached on the rear grip.
For added casting distance and ideal for use with braided lines, Shimano uses Fuji LC guide frames on all the Tiralejo casting rods and on two of the spinning rods. “We’re bringing new technology to the surf fishing market with these special guides - in the past they’ve only been used on custom-built rods,” said Robby Gant, product manager for Shimano’s rod development team. “And when you combine the use of the LC guides, the Slide ‘N’ Grip reel seat and the counter balance weights, anglers will quickly notice Shimano’s extra focus we put on surf fishing.”
The Slide ‘N’ Grip reel seat provides anglers with flexibility not found on any production made surf rod. According to Gant, the seat is constructed from Shimano’s proprietary XT7 graphite materials, features an internal double locking system to ensure maximum grip, and also has two adjustable hoods for ultra fine adjustments.
Because of the flexibility of the Slide ‘N’ Grip real seat, Shimano offers a separate Tiralejo counter balance system. The system includes four weights - 75, 50, 25 and 15 grams each - that easily attach to the rear grip to perfectly balance out the rod and any reel.
For surf anglers, Shimano also introduces the Bluewave surf bag featuring a patent-pending adjustable tube system to store lures vertically without tangling hooks. It also has a front drop-down opening for easy access when carrying it with the removable clip shoulder strap or 3-inch belt strap.
The Tiralejo surf rod series is backed by Shimano’s limited lifetime over-the-counter replacement warranty program. For more information on the rods, see your local tackle dealer - visit the Shimano web site at www.shimano.com - or call Shimano’s product support team at 877/577-0600 (6 am to 5 pm Pacific Standard Time).
