Shimano Introduces New Tld 2-Speed Reels - Now With A-Rb Bearings, Unique Ergonomic Handles
IRVINE, Calif. - Mid-Year ’07 Intro -- Powerful, light and durable can quickly describe Shimano’s new TLD 2-Speed lever-drag reel series, now available in four sizes, the TLD20IIA, TLD30IIA, TLD50IIA and TLD50IILRSA. Each features Shimano’s patented 2-speed shifting mechanism and A-RB anti-rust bearings, along with unique handles to provide comfort and fish-fighting advantages.

“While the original TLD 2-Speeds have been used for nearly 15 years among anglers on both the east and west coasts for everything from bluefin and yellowfin tuna, wahoo and blue marlin, new technology in reel design called for a completely new series,” said Jeremy Sweet, fishing reel product manager for Shimano. “Our A-RB bearings provide the corrosion resistance needed for saltwater use, plus anglers will appreciate the cranking ease of the ergonomic Power Handle on the 20 and 30 size reels, and the offset ergonomic Power Grip on the 50.”

All TLD 2-Speed reels offer Shimano’s patented gear shifting mechanism “allowing anglers to quickly and flawlessly shift gears while fighting a fish by simply touching the gear change button on the handle,” explains Sweet. The TLD20IIA and TLD30IIA offer a high speed 4.0:1 gear ratio - 37-inches of line retrieved per crank, and a power-cranking 1.7:1 low gear ratio - bringing in 16-inches of line per crank. . The 20II size handles from 700 yards of 20-pound test up to 250 yards of 50-pound, while the 30II holds 800 yards of 20-pound, 600 yards of 30, and up to 350 yards of 50.

Both bringing in 38-inches of line per crank in the 3.5:1 high-speed gear ratio mode and 15-inches in low speed 1.4:1 gear ratio, the TLD50IIA holds 700 yards of 50-pound test, and the long-range special 50IILRSA has the capacity of 440 yards of 80.

Construction features on all four reels include stamped graphite frames, graphite sideplates, an aluminum spool, a loud clicker and rod clamp.

“Our new TLD 2-Speed are the ideal choice for anglers looking into lightweight, yet powerful reels, and they each offer proven Shimano features for offshore action,” Sweet said. “The four sizes offered provide anglers with the right reel and the right line capacity for just about any bluewater species.”
